North to North_

North to North is a new musical work by DINA that explores what happens when two landscapes slowly move toward one another.

The north of the Netherlands and the north of Iran meet in sound, space and shared attention. A continental shift on an intimate scale, where distance gives way to proximity.

Artistic Concept

North to North begins with a simple yet far-reaching movement: two landscapes slowly shifting toward one another.

The north of the Netherlands and the north of Iran are approached as meeting grounds, each carrying its own rhythm, space and history. As they draw closer, tension emerges — not collision, not fusion, but an open space in which something new can take shape. A continental shift on a smaller scale, where distance gradually gives way to proximity.

Initiated and artistically directed by DINA, North to North brings together the Iranian musicians Sougol Khojasteh and Bamsar Khojasteh in a shared creative process. The movement toward one another forms the point of departure. What becomes audible when two worlds truly approach each other? What does the landscape reveal when it stands not opposite, but alongside another?

The performance unfolds as one continuous musical work. Extended compositions alternate between stillness and layered improvisation. Voice, traditional instruments, rhythmic bass lines, trance-like percussion and silence move in relation to one another, shaping the structure of the piece.

Poetry and spoken word in Frisian and Persian interweave with English fragments and wordless vocals. Language functions as both sound and meaning, without emphasis or explanation.

Within the meeting of these landscapes, a musical space emerges in which connection is not declared, but made audible. The audience witnesses this movement and finds itself within the same shift.

Alongside its live development, North to North will be released as a full-length album.
