‘Work Hard’ solidifies King Ayisoba's reputation as both a shamanic performer and a restless sonic experimenter.

The kologo instrument, as played by King Ayisoba, is a lute from Northern Ghana with a minimal design – a calabash, covered in goat skins, and boasting only two string.

How does modern pop music reflect its surroundings? Given so many artists often find themselves in in- between states, decamped in airport lounges on their way to somewhere else, the idea of one record successfully capturing the magic of two places separated by thousands of miles, may sound like a contradiction in terms. But this is what happened with ‘Work Hard’, the new album from King Ayisoba

De Kas

In mijn tuin staat een leefkas, met het uizicht op de weilanden, de dijk en daarachter waait de zilte wind van de waddenzee. Het laat me verwonderen en fantaseren over hoe ik en de wind, het weiland, de vogels, en de paarden één kunnen worden. In mijn kas wil ik groeien, broeien, proberen te voelen wat er wil ontknoppen, ontpoppen en hoe ik de bodem moet voeden. Deze plek is waar ik wil onderzoeken. Want onder mijn voeten zit een onuitputtelijke bron van informatie. Mijn grond. Waar ik op sta als nuchtere friezin die zoveel voelt, dat ze ondanks haar aardsheid, een constante aanwezigheid van magie ervaart. Waar komt dat dan toch vandaan…
